Internship FAQ

The University Relations team answers commonly-asked questions regarding internships, fulltime opportunities, the university relations program, and more!

What types of internships are offered?

Blizzard entertainment offers paid, 12-week internships. Internships are available every summer between June – August. We offer internships in areas of game development such as: 3D art, animation, programming, design, production, and quality assurance. In addition, we also offer internships in areas of business support.

Who is eligible for an internship?

To be eligible for an internship here at Blizzard, students must be currently enrolled in a college or university, pursuing a degree, and returning to school upon completion of the internship. Students must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Are international students eligible?

International students who can procure an F-1 visa and work authorization are welcome to apply.

How and when should I apply for an internship?

Summer internship opportunities are posted each fall with an application deadline of January 31st. Please submit your resume, cover letter, and portfolio or project work through the online application system.

Where are the internships located? Do you provide housing for the interns?

We offer internships in our Irvine, San Francisco, and Austin offices. Housing information for non-local students will be provided to candidates in the later stages of the interview process.

Can I apply to multiple internship opportunities?

Yes. If you are interested in applying to more than one internship opportunity, we strongly recommend that you apply to each position that sparks your interest. In addition, we highly recommend you tailor your application for each position.

What skills do you look for in students interested in game development (design, production, programming, etc.)?

We look for individuals passionate about game development and the industry. We want to see your educational background and what you have accomplished in relation to creating game content. We look at your personal projects, involvement in student group projects, participation in the modding community, and/or any other creative way to demonstrate the ability to produce game content.

What skills do you look for in students interested in development teams (online technologies, cinematics, etc.)?

We look for students who are passionate about game development and how their particular field of study contributes to the larger development process. We are interested in students who have been using their educational opportunities and networks to develop creative content related to the focus of the internship they're applying to.

What skills do you look for in students interested in business support teams (human resources, business intelligence, licensing, etc.)?

For business operations interns, we look for individuals with a strong understanding and passion for the applicable discipline, and the ability to apply it in the fast-paced entertainment industry. We're looking for students with strong business acumen, excellent communication skills, and highly organized.

What level of student do you typically hire into internships?

Generally, the majority of our interns are juniors in college; however, we do accept talented freshman and sophomores into the program. We also accept talented Masters and PhD students into the program.
